Le Huong Dung (June)
Legal Officer of Ministry of Justice of Vietnam
Dung is currently Legal Officer in the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam. With more than 3 years’ working experience with the Ministry, she has gained a wealth of experience and therelevant skills in the legal field. She is the contact person for the Central Authority for the Adoption of Vietnamese Children which is recognized by the Hague Conference on Private International Law where she mainly works on international cooperation in regard to inter-country adoption between Vietnam and other member countries of the Hague Convention (No. 33 of 29 May 1993 on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Inter-country Adoption). She began her pursuit of Legal English when she was at University and found it has contributed greatly to her current achievements. “All law students at university must study legal English not only for communication at work but beyond that, for research to see the law from an international perspective,” she says. This is the reason for her involvement in the development of the Legal English courses with Mr. Thomas and her assistance in bringing the TOLES test to Vietnam. She was introduced to the subject of mediation when she worked with Mr. Thomas as an intern in a law firm after graduation.
Says Dung: “Mr. Thomas showed me another dimension of law, my society and the reality. I figured that the law needs to complement social mores, and people working in the legal fieldhave to be realistic. My society has numerous problems but sometimes our law has not tried to resolve them; instead it has made them even more complicated. That is the reason I want to work on mediation to help people solve the problems of society in much easier way.” Presently Dong is collaborating with Thomas Giglione to develop a Family Law Mediation program in Vietnam.
